What is an AREA resident?

An AREA resident is a person registered as living in a resident AREA zone in Barcelona who has, at minimum, a vehicle with more than two wheels.

The vehicle must meet the following requirements:

  • Maximum length: 6 m

What type of parking is a resident allowed?

In their resident zone
Residents with granted parking rights may park in Green spaces and Resident-Only spaces within their designated zone.

To do so, it is mandatory to have a parking time ticket, which can be obtained at the parking meter or through the SMOU app.

The fee is applied according to the vehicle’s environmental label, in accordance with the current tax ordinance.

The vehicle may remain parked in the same spot for a maximum of seven consecutive calendar days, regardless of the number of days paid.

In other areas of the city
Parking is also allowed in Blue and Green spaces in other areas of the city.

In this case, it is mandatory to have a parking time ticket, which can be obtained at the parking meter or through the SMOU app or other authorised applications.

Please note that the non-resident rate applies according to the vehicle’s environmental label, in accordance with the current Tax Ordinance.
